Window Treatments for Sidelights and Skylights

Sidelights and skylights add architectural interest to your home and allow more sunlight to filter into your home. While these parts of your home are stunning and beautiful, controlling the light coming through them can be challenging, as finding the ideal window treatments for them is usually not the easiest task. But Hunter Douglas offers several window treatments for sidelights and skylights, and the North Idaho Blinds, Shades & Shutters team is here to help you find the perfect ones for your home.

Duette® Cellular Shades

Many people wonder why covering skylights is necessary. After all, there’s minimal risk of anyone seeing down into their home, but privacy isn’t really the major concern when it comes to skylights. The real concern is the sunlight that passes through skylights, as too much of it can damage your furniture and flooring and can make your home uncomfortably hot. If you have a skylight in your living room, an excess of natural light can be a hindrance if you’re trying to catch a nap or watch a movie in the afternoon.

What’s the solution? Duette® Cellular Shades. With an innovative honeycomb-shaped interior, cellular shades offer unmatched insulation and sound absorption. Duette® Cellular Shades provide outstanding light control, and their pleated surface introduces exquisite texture to a room. Two operating systems are available for Duette® Cellular Shades on skylights:

  • PowerView® Automation allows you to control your skylight shade with the PowerView® App, the award-winning Pebble® remote, or basic voice commands when you use the PowerView® Gateway to sync your smart home system.
  • If you prefer manual control, the Simplicity™ system uses a telescoping pole to open and close your shades. Your cellular shades can be vertical or horizontal and stack in any direction.

Hunter Douglas Window Treatments for Sidelights

Sidelights are another often ignored area when it comes to coverings. If you choose not to cover yours, you’re compromising your privacy and putting your entryway at risk for sun damage. Several window treatments are available for sidelights; you can use them on other windows and doors in your home to create a cohesive appearance.

Sheer Shades

Silhouette® Sheer Shades and Luminette® Sheer Panels use delicate translucent material to gently filter sunlight and provide protection from UV rays.

Cellular Shades

Duette® Cellular Shades with ⅜” wide pleats are an excellent match for tall, slim sidelights. They transition easily to standard windows, sliding glass doors, and French doors.

Blinds

Modern Precious Metals® Mini Blinds are a fantastic accent to industrial and contemporary-style foyers. They are available in various chic finishes and three-slat sizes. Choose the ½” wide slats for sidelights and the 1” or 2” comprehensive options for windows and French doors.

Shutters

Shutters are a classic All-American window treatment available in three material and styles – Heritance® Wood Shutters, Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters, and NewStyle® Composite Shutters. With louver widths ranging from 2 ½” to 4 ½” wide, you can effortlessly incorporate shutters throughout your home.
